The Pelican Centre approached us to assist them in securing a grant from the Sports England Swimming Pool Support Fund. Thanks to successfully receiving the grant, the site proceeded with the Solar PV installation.

Our teams installed 180 solar panels across the three roof aspects, significantly reducing the site’s electricity costs—a crucial benefit for leisure centres facing rising energy bills.

Our team conducted a thorough analysis of all available roof spaces, leading to the installation of a substantial array of solar panels on the main roof using GSE Integration. Upon surveying the main roof, it was evident that GSE Integration was the optimal choice, allowing for re-felting, battening, and slating around the panels. For the other two roof aspects, which had relatively new coverings, we opted for Esdec Hanger Bolts.

Additionally, we used SolarEdge Technologies inverters, optimisers, and an energy meter for their advanced safety features.

The PV system is estimated to generate 74 MWh a year, covering around 31% of the site’s electricity consumption and offsetting their electricity bill by approximately 33%. With these estimated figures, the system payback period is estimated at 5.2 years.

Our experience with similar projects underscores our commitment to helping leisure centres remain operational and sustainable. We believe that solar PV is an excellent solution to mitigate the financial challenges posed by increasing electricity costs.
